Co-founder Scott Linklater will cycle from Calgary to Maine in support of Cancervive

September 2012

“After my dad was diagnosed and treated for cancer 12 years ago, I felt I wanted to make a difference in supporting cancer awareness. Cycling with this team of riders is giving me that opportunity.” says Scott Linklater, co-founder of Robert Scott Group.

The annual 9-day bike excursion features a group of 30 riders in pelotons of six, cycling relay style 24 hours a day covering a total of 4100km. The riders will leave from Wellspring Calgary on October 3rd, 2012 and arrive in Lewiston, Maine on October 12 in time to participate in the Dempsey Challenge weekend which is spearheaded by actor Patrick Dempsey.

Each rider will sponsor a Warrior to fly to Maine to participate in the weekend’s events and celebrate survivorship. A Cancervive Warrior is someone who has fought or is fighting the battle against cancer. This weekend offers some relief and at the same time gives a dose of hope and inspiration, as the journey through cancer treatment can be a spiritual drain on patients and their families. This year, Scott is sponsoring his friend, Marilyn Langdon. Marilyn is excited to be part of this amazing group and looks forward to participating in the weekend events.

The Cancervive Peloton Project (CPP) is a Cancervive flagship event aimed at ambassadorship of cancer survivors and awareness of their issues. A documentary of this year’s ride (The Peloton Project) will follow the lives of the participating cyclists and their warriors. Woven throughout the team’s journey across North America will be stories of cancer survivors, caregivers, and a young woman who has just been diagnosed. The Peloton Project Film will look closely at the people behind the cancer diagnoses to see what life is like for them before and after cancer and how they find strength to face the challenge ahead. Patrick Dempsey has agreed to be the Executive Producer of the film www.thepelotonfilm.com

All funds raised by the Cancervive ride go to support Wellspring Calgary. Wellspring exists to inform, support, and empower patients, families and caregivers by providing free programs, services and resources to those affected by cancer.
